Gor Mahia now very close to AFC Leopards

The momentum to the highly anticipated mouth watering top -8 quarter final match pitting arch-rivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards has started building after Gor tactician, Zradvko Lugarusic started playing mind games ahead of the Sunday clash.

The Craotian tactician believes his side's impressive run of six consecutive wins gives them an edge over their bitter rivals AFC Leopards ahead of Sunday’s Top-8 quarter-final match at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Lugarusic however, was quick to point out his huge respect for Leopards whom he says deserve to be at the top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings.

“When I joined Gor Mahia three months ago, Leopards were 15 points ahead of us. Right now, it has reduced to eight. This means that we have done better than them and it gives us plenty confidence ahead of the Sunday derby.”

“However, we respect Leopards a great deal and appreciate the fact that they are not at the top by chance. Their current position should tell everybody about their form,” he said.

“The beauty about a derby is that you rarely need to motivate your players.

“Taking part in a derby is a motivation in itself and the coaches have little to do. At Gor, we are taking it easy and treating this match like any other where we want to just to do our best and hope for positive results,” he said.

He appealed to fans from both sides to desist from acts of hooliganism that have characterized these two teams when they last met in a PKL match.
